Downpour Wreaks Havoc In Port Harcourt

…Roads, Shopping Mall, Houses Flooded

An early morning downpour on Tuesday, 21st September in the city of Port Harcourt has left so many almost homeless while vehicular movement became impossible.

Also affected was a popular shopping mall in the heart of the town.

This medium gathered that Station Road, Garrison and Government House roads were heavily flooded, making movements almost impossible while some people were trapped inside their vehicles.

The popular Spar Mall was also affected as the flood entered many shops destroying goods whiles the shop owners were yet to get to their shops.

One of the victims whose house was flooded said the water was coming from both underground and through the door.

“The water is coming from under the ground in my own flat. While others are entering from outside.

” My children’s room is flooded. I can’t open my room cos the flood is too much from that end,” a lady that identified herself as Mildred Seafood wrote on Facebook.

It was a pathetic situation in Ada-George Road where a new flyover is undergoing construction, as occupants of two buildings beside the popular Gateway junction, have been forced to evacuate with their houses nearly submerged.

The cause of the flood, some residents say, is due to the volume of the downpour which went on for hours nonstop.
