Ogundu Celebrates 2022 New Yam Festival At Azumini Isiokpo

As a way of promoting and sustaining the custom and tradition of Ikwerre ethnic nationality, the traditional ruler of Azumini – Isiokpo, Eze Kingsley Ogundu recently rolled out the drums to celebrate this year’s new yam festival at his palace, Azumini Isiokpo, Ancient kingdom.

Eze Ogundu who bears the traditional title of ‘Oyo the 8th’ of Azumini said he is not tired to perform his traditional duties in line with the culture of the land, stressing that his general acceptance to ascend the throne by the people cannot be wished away.

He noted that the forefathers handed down huge cultural heritage to the succeeding generations that should continually be practised, promoted and protected, adding that the display of masquerades, cultural dances and all forms of festivities are part and parcel of culture     and urged all and sundry to get actively involved in the show to make it better and finally commended the people of Isiokpo for their hard work and peaceful disposition.

Meanwhile, stake holders who attended the epoch– making ceremony observed that the event was well organised and entertaining.

In their separate reactions, Eze Justice Amadi and Engr Chukwudi Dimkpa posited that new yam festival is an annual event signifying the end of farming season as well as ushering in new season.

They however advised younger generations not to shy away from the culture of their father land and finally commended Eze Ogundu for keeping faith with the culture of the people of the area.

The event witnessed the the presence of people from all walks of life including AMBASSADOR Maureen Tamuno amongst other dignitaries.
