The official unveiling of the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  Sir, Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy Prof . Mrs Ngozi Odu, Saturday, Nov. 20, left no one in doubt that the PDP is the traditional party of  Rivers people.

Speaking to a cross section of the dignitaries at the event, the Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro local government council, Hon. Enyiada Cookey-Gam said the large turn- out did not come as a surprise because Governor Nyesom Wike has already laid the foundation stone of development, therefore, every right thinking person should be able to join the PDP train.

According to him, PDP as a party did not make mistake by choosing Sir Sim Fubara as the gubernatorial candidate of the party and having been tested and confirmed, would consolidate on the gains and landmarks of governor Wike .

He posited that the only way to tell PDP thank you was to vote massively for their brother Sir, Fubara who is from the South -East Senatorial District and for the first time they are going to take over the Brick House with a riverine man from Opobo.

Hon . Cookey-Gam enjoined all youths to come out enmass to vote for their fellow youth, saying the slogan ‘youths’ are the leaders of tomorrow has come to play in the life of their brother.

Also speaking was a member representing Gokana State constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon . Dumle Maol who is also the flag bearer of his constituency. He  explained that the sole reason behind the mammoth crowd at the event is that Governor Nyesom Wike has been instrumental to the overall success of the party and thanked him for doing marvelously well for Rivers people and applauded the decision of his party on the choice of Sir Sim Fubara.

His words: The unprecedented crowd shows that PDP has done well in Rivers State and that is the reason we use the slogan, ‘consolidation of the New Rivers Vision’. We are consolidating on what Governor Nyesom Wike is doing, we don’t want to give a gap. Consolidation to us means there is no gap and we are going to cement, fortify and strengthen what our governor is doing . This is the hallmark of what is happening here today.

On his chances in the forthcoming election, Hon Maol was so optimistic of victory based on his antecedents and that this is not the first time he will win an election.

He said when he contested in 2019 election, his slogan was “the future is now” but having done well as a representative of his people, the slogan has been changed to “We keep Rising” in this coming election, adding that in the year 2019, they were young people who aspired to take over position of leadership, of which he said that the sacred trust given to them was not abused.

Giving an insight into some of his achievements, he said he has built one of the best secondary schools with light and ICT in Gokana, situated at Barako based on their request and that he is about to commission same at B-Dere. He promised to provide for his constituency based on their demands and not just the normal building of town hall as others do.
