Eze Nwala Decries Killings In Etche Land

One of the prominent Traditional Rulers in Rivers State and “Onye Ishi Agwuru” of Ulakwo Umuselem Clan, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH, Eze Ken Nwala (JP) has ‘decried the spate of violence and crisis that has enveloped the area in recent times.

Eze Nwala who is the chairman of the security committee of Etche Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, made this known in his palace at Nihi community, Etche LGA of Rivers State recently.

He lamented that Etche land that used to be known for her peace and tranquility is gradually degenerating into chaos and anarchy following recent happenings that have claimed a lot of lives in the area.

The monarch particularly frowned at recent killings reported in Umuebulu Community where a man was found to be killing and burying people in a soak-away including the killing of a youth leader in the same community as well as recorded killings in other parts of Etche land.Eze Nwala, a known philanthropist and businessman wondered where things went wrong in Etche to the extent that human lives are no longer sacrosanct, thus labeling Etche land as one of the unsafe places to live in.

He used the opportunity to advise Etche people including residents and visitors alike to wake up to stop the ugly trend in the interest of all.

According to him, “Every hands must be on deck to stem the tide as human life is sacrosanct and so should therefore be respected.”

He appealed to the cultists, militants, kidnappers and armed robbers in their midst to repent from criminality of any kind or relocate elsewhere as they will ensure that anybody that is caught go in for it.

He expressed fear that if the killings and issue of insecurity rocking Etche land persist unabated, people may consider packing out of the area.

“Investors may also be dissuaded to come into the area which may affect development of the area.

Residents could also be tempted to desert their homes for safe area,” he said.

Eze Nwala used the opportunity to call on the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mukan, other security agencies and indeed all stakeholders to come to their aid before it becomes too late.

The traditional ruler also used the opportunity to commend the police in the area for foiling the kidnap and robbery attempt recently on passengers plying Etche road by some hoodlums who met their waterloo in the process.
