Community School Cries For Help From Poor Conditions, Hoodlums

Students of Community Secondary School Ngboshimini in Obio/Akpor local government area have appealed to the state government to come to their rescue over the dilapidated structures, absence of basic educational facilities and harassment of cultists  in the school.

Some of the students who spoke on the  poor condition of their school called on the Rivers State  government to, as a matter of urgency, renovate and upgrade the school for conducive learning, apart from addressing the security situation of the school.

Speaking on the development, Joy Okwu, a senior secondary school student said the conditions in which they received learning is deplorable, stressing that students went as far as sitting on the floor to learn in the classrooms where the ceilings were bad. She said that even the staff rooms were not spared in the deplorable conditions of the school.”The staff rooms are really, really bad. Everywhere is just tattered, we need government assistance. We need chairs to sit so that we can be more comfortable when learning. She said that an unconducive environment would not promote learning between the students and the teachers.

Another female students who spoke on conditions of anonymity lamented how students of the school suffered untold hardship in the hands of hoodlums and cultists who sexually harass female students and cart away valuables from other students due to lack of security.

Corroborating the female students, a male SS1 student, Daniel Otogwu, recalled that during the just conducted inter house sport of the school, some cultists jumped into the school premises through the fence.”The fence is bad, they were able to jump in, harassing students. My money and belt were taken away from me. I was not happy, I was just crying.”

Meanwhile, efforts to get the school principal to comment on the state of the school proved abortive as the she declined comments.
