Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Magnus Ngei Abe has promised that oil and gas host communities will benefit from their oil when he becomes the governor of Rivers State.
Abe stated this while receiving representatives from the oil and gas bearing communities in the State who came together to endorse him as their governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.
Abe while assuring that his administration will partner with them to ensure that oil host communities in Rivers State get the necessary benefit due them ,said he will give special attention to issues of livelihood of host communities knowing the impact of environmental degradation as a result of oil pollution in their land.
His words, “Nobody can take away the effort and commitment that you put into getting the country to understand that oil and gas host communities are not benefitting from their Oil. We will ensure that these communities that have oil and money comes from it to the government get some form of recognition or the other. One promise I will give to you people is that when I become governor, these issues will be addressed”.
Representatives of the oil and gas host communities called on the SDP standard bearer to represent their interest if elected governor of Rivers state and pledge to give him the needed support.
