The member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor has opened discussions with the Khana Local Government Area chapter of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), with a view to enhance educational growth in the area.

Rt. Hon. Dekor who was speaking at an award ceremony on him by the Khana Zone of the Rivers State Senior Schools Board (RSSSB) and ANCOPPSS in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area on Friday, said the partnership is premised on the undying passion he had for education.

The federal lawmaker who bagged an Icon of Educational Development award from the two institutions, urged Principals of secondary schools in Khana Local Government to organize debate and quiz competitions among schools in the area, promising to fund the contests.

Rt. Hon. Dekor who disclosed that he had his primary education in Khana Local Government Area and at Primary five, sat for the common entrance examination where he was admitted into the Federal Government College, said the inter-school quiz and debate competitions would bring the best out of the pupils in the area.

“Let me also say that for those of us who find ourselves in the position of management of our educational system, and those who are also rendering the service as teachers and Principals, we must encourage them.  Let us encourage them to step up the game because it’s being lowered a bit. But we’ll get there, am sure we’ll get there”, he said.

He said he had it on good authority that the Rivers State government has concluded plans to intervene in many secondary schools in Khana Local Government Area, while also urging the teachers and principals to do their best in encouraging the young students in the area.

The Icon of Educational Development award, according to the organizations, was conferred on Rt. Hon. Dekor for his numerous contributions towards educational development in Ogoniland.

Among dignitaries that graced the event was the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Bariere Thomas as well as traditional rulers from the area.
