Gov. Fubara Eulogizes Late Aguma

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has described the Late Emmanuel Chinwenwo Aguma (SAN) as a great man and a wonderful soul who distinguished himself as a Legal Luminary.

Governor Fubara stated this during the 6th Memorial Lecture/Public Discussion in memory of Emmanuel Chinwenwo Aguma (SAN) at the NBA House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, 10th August 2023.

Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, Governor Fubara said Chinwenwo Aguma lives on in our hearts for his great achievements not only in Rives State but in Nigeria, adding that he was appointed as the Hon Attorney –General and Commissioner for Justice in 2015 and reappointed in 2017 because he distinguished himself in service.

According to the Governor, what the Aguma and Co. Legal Practitioners were organizing in his memory is highly commendable because sometimes when some great men pass away they are forgotten but with this initiative he will forever be remembered.

“This year’s event is unique because the firm has taken additional steps in awarding 25 scholarships to indigent and indigenous law students which will certainly immortalize him”. The Governor quipped.

In her remarks, Hon. Justice Mary Odili retired, said the late. Emmanuel Aguma was a great Lawyer, a great Attorney General, and a well-respected Rivers man who served the State meritoriously, which is why the State and nation continues to honour him.

According to her a lot of people become mentally deranged and contact terminal diseases, when taken into the correctional centres due to the congested nature of the centres, stressing that the memorial lecture would sensitize both student Lawyers and non-Lawyers to what goes on, in the correctional centres.

In his address, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Hon. Justice Simeon Amadi commended the organizers of the memorial lecture for the choice of the theme:  “Decongestion of the Correctional Centres: The Role of the various Stakeholders”, described it as apt, especially as it concerns the administration of Criminal Justice in Nigeria.

Also speaking the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, commended the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for initiating and sustaining the Memorial Lecture in memory of the former Attorney General.
