Rivers FRSC Commander Calls For Improved Safety Measures
The Road Safety 6.1 Safety Commander, Christopher Kuje has advocated for improved safety measures on Nigerian roads. Commander Christopher who made the call in an interview with newsmen said he has passion to serve humanity, and that was his major reason for enlisting in the Road Safety Corps.
According to him, the mandate of the Road Safety Corps which includes removing obstructions from the roads, printing of number plates and driver’s licences, embarking on road auditing, and research to discover solutions against hazards that would occur on roads, collaborations with stakeholders on safety measures on the roads, etc, are some of his passions.
He however, said human element and funding have been the main challenge of the FRSC since inception 26 years ago.
The road marshal disclosed that recently, the FRSC carried out some activities to ensure safety on Nigerian roads, such as road work by officers from Mile 1 to Rivers Joy office, providing free medical outreach to over 100 drivers and identifying 172 filling stations for distribution of tracts that emphasized safety standards.
He underscored the importance of education and public awareness in promoting road safety, stressing that education is a prerequisite for understanding the essence of life. He also emphasized the need for drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, adding that the Corps will soon start introducing road safety clubs in schools.
