Late Ma Dorcas Ejekwu Laid To Rest

The body of late Ma Dorcas Nnenda Ejekwu, a community woman leader has been laid to mother earth in her husband’s compound, over the weekend in Rumuwoji Community, Diobu in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State amidst pomp and pageantry.

Preaching the sermon at the funeral service held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu Port Harcourt, Ven. David Eguare said it was note worthy for every living being to work hard towards leaving a worthy legacy which he/she would be remembered for. The man of God commended the deceased for the type of Christian life she led which according to him, should be emulated by all.

He made it clear that the crowd of mourners present to bid her farewell shows that late mama was loved and appreciated by those who came her way.

The only bible reading was taken from first Thessalonians 4:13-3nd.

The biography of late Madam Ejekwu who died at age 88, revealed that though she did not have the opportunity of a formal education but that through the dint of hardwork and determination got her Teachers Grade II Certificate which propelled her to lime light.

“Mama was a devout Christian and born leader of human and material resources,” it said.

The biography also disclosed that Mama Ejekwu was a professional trader who combined various activities affectively despite her commitment to the family as a married woman and caring mother with its attendants responsibilities.

 “Among the positions mama held in her life time was the Vice Chairman of Rumuwoji Mile One Market, Diobu; Treasurer, Women Guild; member of “Priscilla Women Group of the church as well as the financial secretary, National Traders and Leaders Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter”.

Governor Nyesom Wike who was represented at the funeral service by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Engr. Emeka Woke commended late Mama Nnenda Ejekwu for her resourcefulness and commitment to the things of God. He urged the living to emulate her exemplary life of simplicity.

The Governor equally used the opportunity to sympathized with his former Special Adviser, Hon. Glory Emeh for having such a mother-in-law.

“Your mother-in-law was profoundly kind-hearted and touched many lives. Everyone will miss her, but we are grateful to God Almighty for the fulfilled life she shared with her family and the values she passed on to her children as well as her peaceful personality which was an inspirational to many people,” he noted. 

One of the sons of the deceased Mr. Prosper Ejekwu who spoke to newsmen at the sideline of the funeral ceremony said her mother was a pillar of hope for them in the family.

“She left a very big shoes for us to fill but we are thankful to God for the legacies she left behind. We are proud of her.

He promised that they would ensure that the legacy of a peaceful disposition and united family members would be maintained.

Prosper used the opportunity to appreciate everyone especially government functionaries who came around to give their mother a befitting burial in appreciation of her sacrifices to humanity.
