Harassment Of Female Student: Polytechnic Urges Lecturer To Apologize

…As Lecturer Says He Committed No Crime

Mr Zoe Tamunotonye Solomon has said he committed no ‘misconduct’ to warrant him writing an apology letter to Management of the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic over alleged exploitation and harassment of a female student, Miss Blessing Lucky Audu.

Mr Solomon who was shedding light on the response letter he wrote to Management of the institution on their decision to lift his three months suspension without pay, told our correspondent that he wrote to the institution for clarity on what he is apologizing for since to the best of his knowledge he is not guilty of misconduct.

Mr Solomon said “I do not think the matter is between me and the girl, as the matter between us has been resolved by the Commissioner of Police. I do not know where my institution is coming from to deal with me”.

He further asked the institution to review its present position on the matter while calling for justice.

Meanwhile the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, Port Harcourt in a letter dated 10th April,2022 and signed by the institutions registrar, Chris A. Woke,  and addressed to Zoe Tamunotonye Solomon, urged the lecturer to apologize to the Management of the institution over his role in alleged harassment and exploitation of a female student Blessing Audu.

The letter read that the “Management committe at it (special) meeting held on 29th March,2022 considered the report of findings and recommendations of “investigative committe on alleged misconduct by Mr Zoe Solomon Tamunotonye against Miss Blessing Audu and accepted that your conduct in the matter of harassment and exploitation of Miss Blessing Lucky Audu as widely reported in the media amounted to misconduct in line with the law establishing the Polytechnic and justifies your suspension for three months without pay effect from 10th January,2022”.

“In view of the above, your three months suspension without pay should be lifted from 10th April, 2022. You should render an unreserved written apology to Management. You are by this strongly warned against such or similar unwholesome act in future especially any wilful act or behaviour prejudicial to the good name of the school. You should undertake in writing to be of good behaviour throughout your period of service in the Polytechnic. Please comply accordingly to avoid further disciplinary measures”.

When our reporter contacted the Public Relations Officer of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Benson Wekere, on the allegations against the institution by Zoe Tamunotonye Solomon, he said the institution will release a statement soon on the matter.

Recall that the Sani Abacha Police Division had arrested the female student, Blessing Lucky Audu on December 29, 2021 following Complaints by the male lecturer that she stole his money and property, an allegation Blessing Audu denied accusing the male lecturer of harassing her because she turned down his marriage proposal an allegation the male lecturer denied too.
