ONELGA Flood: We’re On Top Of Situation, Job Replies Critics

…As LDRO Commends Bro. Obuah For Being ‘Brothers’ Keeper’

The Executive Chairman of Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Hon. Vincent Job has reacted to a Facebook page credited to one Kelly Rufus , leader of a group under the aegis of Egbema Massive Movement, in which he accused the Chairman for not visiting Egbema during his assessment tour of communities currently ravaged by flood.

Hon. Job in a statement by his media aide, Ugochukwu Owotor Owotor described the Facebook post as targeted to deceive the gullible public and thereby win cheap popularity.

In the Facebook post, Mr. Rufus had poured encomium on the Managing Director of Pajah Security Agency, Ambassador Onyebuchi Irona, for providing speed boats to victims trapped by flood at the Ebocha submerged bridge.

The post commended the donor for “doing what government cannot do for the people of Egbema”, and went on to deride the ONELGA Council as a government which “jokes with the lives of its people”.

“To put the record straight, the ONELGA Council Chairman in company of the Oba of Ogbaland, including some stakeholders, visited the flood ravaged communities on the 7th of October, 2022, including Egbema”, Job said.

The statement however commended the MD of Pajah Security Agency, Onyebuchi Irona for his assistance, saying government cannot do it alone, even as he urged other good spirited individuals and corporate bodies to also come to the aid of the flood victims.

The statement added that Hon Vincent Job had earlier made a passionate appeal to both state and federal government agencies for assistance, as well as earmarked IDP Centers in the six geopolitical zones of the local government to rehabilitate the victims

Meanwhile, the Local Disaster Relief Organization (LDRO), has appealed to the state and federal government, especially the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to come to the aid of the suffering victims of the annual devastating flood in the Ogba/ Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area ONELGA of Rivers State.

“The current flood is expanding everyday and emergency response is highly needed”, according to Miller Ogwu, Local Disaster Relief Organization Director.

“The flood has destroyed the entire LGA, displaced more than 20,000 families, farmlands, schools, and more”, he said.

Mr. Ogwu commended the relentless effort of Bro. Felix Obuah aka Go Round who is also a big victim for his call on relevant authorities to come to the aid of his people, while promising to also assist where necessary, describing the Mba Anabara Agu 1 of Orashi Kingdom as a brother’s keeper.

Recall that Bro. Felix Obuah few days ago visited the flood ravaged areas including his Krisdera Hotels for on-the-spot assessment of the extent of damage.

“We call on other public spirited individuals, the Rivers State Government and the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to kindly visit the areas, dispatch palliatives and relief materials to the victims and their families, including immediate and urgent evacuation of displaced families to IDP camps to save lives, give hope and succor to the victims.

“We also urge political office holders, candidates and stakeholders to join hands to work assiduously and contribute towards ameliorating the pathetic condition of victims of the flood disaster”, Miller said.
