Group Inaugurates Rivers Exco
…As NUJ Chairman, Secretary, Others Bag Awards
A Niger Delta peace advocacy group under the aegis of South/South Youths Peace Mission (SSYPM) inaugurated its Executives and Parliament for the Rivers State chapter in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
Speaking at the event which took place at the state secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the National president of the group, Amb. Ebimie Makera Mighty (JP) said the aim and objectives of the group is to foster peace in the region and the nation at large as according to him “peace is the panacca to development”.
He explained that the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for the purposes of promoting and sustaining peace and unity in the country in collaboration with the security agencies”.
He also said they have other arms that are responsible for the empowerment of the youths through skill acquisitions as well as employment for self reliance.
Also speaking in a chat with newsmen, the Mayor of the group incharge of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. (Amb.) Mike Woke disclosed that their organigram has the head of the executives as High Commissioner Nkemdirim Ordu.
While he takes care of the parliament. He also reiterated that the NGO is for the promotion, maintenance and sustenance of peace in the Niger Delta region in particular and Nigeria as a whole in partnership with the government, adding that the governors of the respective states of the Niger Delta are automatic patrons of the group which headquarters is at Bayelsa State.
Among the awardees for the Ambassadors of Peace and Justice of Peace includes the Rivers State chairman of the NUJ, Mr. Stanley Job Stanley and his secretary, Mr. Ike Wigodo; High Commissioner, Hon. (Amb) Nkemdirim Ordu, Mayor of the State, Rt. Hon. Mike Woke; Women Coordinator, Hon. (Amb.) Mrs. Edna Njoku; secretary National Council of Women Agenda in Rivers State, Amb. (Mrs) Ann Adaeze Ordu; the Personal Assistant to the National President, Amb. Sweet Uche who is in-charge of the Empowerment and Employment as well as Mr. Jerry Dappa of the Radio Rivers.
The NUJ Chairman, Mr. Stanley Job Stanley on behalf of the awardees thanked the organizers of the event and promised that the gesture will spur them the more to make more contributions to humanity.
