Oyigbo Stakeholders, Council Chairman Differ On Allegation Of Setting Up Parallel Bodies

The Oyigbo General Assembly also known as Oha Amala Oyigbo is not happy with what they described as meddling into their chieftaincy affairs by the executive chairman of Oyigbo local government council, Gerald Oforji.

The Oha Amala Oyigbo comprising the Community Development Committee (CDC), the Youth leadership and community chiefs came out with this after their meeting recently with the demand that the council chairman stop forthwith, the usurpation of their duties by way of constituting parallel bodies in Oyigbo.

According to the leadership of the Oyigbo General Assembly, the council chairman on assumption of office, dissolved the exco of Eke Oyigbo and appointed his own boys to collect all the revenues without recourse to the rules and regulations guiding the market.

The council chairman, they also alleged, went ahead to constitute his own council of chiefs, youths and community development committee in contrast to the existing ones and worse still, treats their only government recognized traditional ruler in the person of HRH, Eze (Dr.) Mike Nwaji, Eze Oha Oyigbo Kingdom with disrespect.

Angered by all these ignoble acts including the arrest and detention of one of their own, Hon. Kelechi Azuh by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) allegedly at the instance of the council chairman, the Oyigbo stakeholders want the State Governor and security agencies to call Mr. Oforji to order, as his actions are capable of igniting crisis in Oyigbo.

Reacting earlier on the allegations through some section of the media, the council chairman, Gerald Oforji said there was no iota of truth in the allegation. Those accusing him of meddling into their affairs, he said, are doing so on selfish grounds.

Meanwhile, the Oyigbo stakeholders have washed their hands off the recent incident in which some trucks were allegedly burnt during the protests that followed the IPOB sit-at-home order.
