Amuzi Unity Day: Arrangements Intensified As  Countdown Begins

As countdown to New Years Day begins to herald the Amuzi Unity Day celebration, expectations are soaring among people of Amuzi, Dim-Na-Nume Isu and neighboring communities in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State.

Kudos for sustained hyping of the event, at both social and traditional media, as a visit to the area reveals intensified efforts to put everything in shape ahead of the D-Day.

Driving past the ever busy Anara-Orlu Road, a man-sized banner stood at Amuzi Junction with a screaming message welcoming visitors to the epochal event.

Speaking on the development, the National Chairman of Amuzi Progressives Union (APU), Mr. Obinna Otuonye expressed delight and described the upcoming event as the dawn of a new era.

He said the community would use the biannual event to confer posthumous Award on the late Ugochinyere of Dim-Na-Nume, Chief (Sir) Chyna Iwuanyanwu who died in 2018.

The APU leader described late Iwuanyanwu as an epitome of greatness, who although demised but the light he lit in Amuzi still shines brightly.

Recall that late Chief Chyna Iwuanyanwu was a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who contested the National Chairmanship of the party in March 8, 2008, losing narrowly to the late Vincent Ogbulafor. He also contested the position of the party’s National Publicity Secretary in 2013.

The APU National Chairman while hinting that the Amuzi Day Celebration will be first of it’s kind, also praised the efforts of the Obinna Uzoma led Planning Committee for job so far done in sensitizing Amuzians at home and abroad.

“One aspect of the celebration that will win the heart of every culture loving Amuzian is the reviving of Egwu Abu and Dibugwu Nwanyi cultural groups. Yes, it will indeed be the beginning of a new dawn for our people”, Otuonye said.

Chairman of the event’s planning committee, Mr. Obinna Uzoma while also speaking, gave kudos to members of the committee for singlehandedly raising the fund needed for executing the project and enjoined other patriotic Amuzians to join the progressive train.

Mr. Uzoma, a Lagos based business man, popularly called ‘Ngaba Dan Global, said: “The level of support demonstrated by members of my committee is unprecedented.

This show of love for Amuzi is a welcome development, and further tells what you can achieve with the force of unity, meaning that the future is indeed very bright for us”.

In the same vein, some members of the community pliing their businesses abroad said they can’t wait to hit home for the fiesta.

Italy based businessman and member of the Amuzi Day Celebration planning committee, Emmanuel Uzoma,  said he would not want to miss out of the action, adding that though he had always savoured the novelty of being in the village during festive periods, the Amuzi Day Celebration promises to be way above all celebrations.

“For me it’s going to be a carnival. You know how it feels to see many faces again after many years. It’s going to be funtastic and I want to see and feel it all”, he enthused.

Expressing the same sentiment, another member of the event’s planning committee, Mr. Obumneme Maduabuchukwu, said the event is significant in many ways.

A Ghana-based businessman, Maduabuchukwu, popularly called Bishop said:  “Honestly I feel great that I will witness Amuzi Day celebration once again, in a more dignified way this time around.

“I am happy that we are getting it right this period. I felt we have been left behind from what other villages are enjoying. Events like this nurtures and brings development to any community. I feel good and I speak from my heart.

“Amuzi Day Celebration will foster unity and development to Amuzi and we need to put more effort, to ensure that this light doesnt quench because it will help Amuzi in many ways”.

The Celebration will have as Chief Host, the Deputy Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu while the Special Guest of Honour would be the member representing Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu Ngaba Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon Ugonna Ozuruigbo (Enyioha Gburugburu).

Eze Dr. Nelson Obasi, Dim II and paramount ruler of Dim-Na-Nume will be the Royal Father of the day while popular disc jockey, DJ Sound Master  will take charge of musical sets.
