RSG Reiterates Commitment To Improved Quality Education
…Distributes Instructional Materials to Schools
As part of Rivers State Government’s commitments to improving the quality of Education in the state, the Ministry of Education has commenced distribution of instructional materials to schools in the state.
Distributing the materials to the various zones ,the state commissioner for Education Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom explained that the materials were delayed a little because of the need to ensure that there were enough materials for all the zones in the state.
He informed that the Government of Rivers State ably led by Bar. Nyesom Wike has been investing in people and prioritizing Education in the state. He also disclosed that Government spends minimum of N3bn annually on free registeration of students for External Certificate Examinations like Basic Education Certificate (BECE),National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) adding that with the release of funds for this year’s external examinations, Rivers children will continue to enjoy free registration of all these external examinations.
Prof. Mmom also stated that some schools in the state are currently undergoing renovations both at the junior and senior levels and enjoined those affected to bear with the inconveniences occasioned by the renovation which according to him is momentary adding that approval has been given for renovation, furnishing and re-modeling of more schools in the state which will be taken bit by bit.
He asked the Directors of the various zones to ensure that all the principals in their zones get the materials to ease teaching and learning processes assuring that distribution of instructional materials will be a periodic exercise. He however warned the principals against selling the materials which are meant to be distributed freely to the students, stressing that the issue extortion.
Responding the President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary School (ANCOPSS) Ewoh Ellah Gordon thanked the Rivers State Government for the kind gesture promising that principals will not use them to decorate their offices.
The materials distributed include Text Books, Novels, Chalks, Registers Diaries Markers among others.
