Rivers Assembly Moves To Address Stealing Of Manhole Covers
Worried by the hazards caused by the removal of manhole covers on the streets of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State House of Assembly has constituted a 5 man adhoc committee to address the menace.
This was sequel to a motion presented to the House by the lawmaker representing Khana constituency 2, Mr Dinebari Loolo.
Constituting the committee the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule described the act as criminal and warned against the stealing of manholes on the roads of Port Harcourt.
He mandated the committee to liase with the Ministry of Works, Transport and other relevant agencies to make sure anyone found wanting would be prosecuted and given adequate punishment.
Earlier, while presenting the motion, Hon. Dinebari Loolo hinted that the removal of the manhole covers has caused a lot of accidents among motorists and commuters in the state while calling on those who see it as a business venture to desist from it.
He also prayed the House to condemn the removal of manhole covers, call on the Ministry of Works and Transport to proactively ensure the safety of government properties.
The 5 man committee is headed by the lawmaker representing Bonny constituency, Mr Victor Oko- Jaja while Goodboy Sokari (Ahoada west), Ngbar Bernard Baridamue (Tai), Emelia Amadi (Obio/Akpor2) and Ezekwem Nkemjika (ONELGA 2) are to serve as members.
