O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation Celebrates Pupils, Teachers of St. Augustine’s, Abonnema
In a further demonstration of its unwavering commitment to educational excellence in Rivers State and beyond, the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation on Friday, July 21, 2023, celebrated outstanding pupils and teachers of St. Augustine’s Nursery and Primary School, Douglas Waterside, Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state.
At a colourful and entertaining event attended by parents, the Foundation provided cash incentives to the pupils and teachers to reward their diligence.
Twenty-seven outstanding pupils who had demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, despite facing various challenges were each awarded a substantial sum to support their educational pursuits.
The pupils’ excitement about receiving the cash gifts was contagious, filling the air with joy and vitality. As each deserving pupil’s name was announced, they stepped forward with broad smiles that stretched from ear to ear.
Their eyes sparkled with excitement, and some even clapped their hands in glee, unable to contain their emotions.
The teachers whose dedication had significantly improved the quality of education at the school were also recognized and rewarded for their extraordinary efforts.
The cash incentives served as a well-deserved acknowledgment of their unwavering commitment to shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning.
Addressing the enthusiastic audience, Assistant Coordinator of Programmes, O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, Mrs. Princess Ahana, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of the Foundation, Dr Mrs Seinye O. B. Lulu Briggs, delivered a passionate speech on the importance of education and its profound impact on society.
She highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to providing educational opportunities to the under served and marginalized, emphasizing its vision of transforming lives through learning.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vicar in charge of St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Abonnema, Ven. I. Umeokolo expressed gratitude, saying that the O. B. Lulu Briggs Foundation’s generous initiative has instilled renewed enthusiasm in the pupils and teachers.
He added that the gesture will undoubtedly pave the way for a brighter future for everyone involved.
Many parents who spoke to the National Network applauded the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation’s commitment to transforming education in Abonnema. They pledged their commitment to encouraging their children to perform at the highest level.
The event’s highlight was a captivating drama and debate presentations during which pupils in the pre-nursery, nursery and primary schools showcased their talents.
The carefully crafted play depicted the immense benefit of schooling at St. Augustine’s Nursery and Primary School, Abonnema.
The young actors’ expressive faces and heartfelt delivery resonated with the audience, leaving many deeply moved and teary-eyed by the powerful messages conveyed through their performance.
After the play, the pupils engaged in a stimulating debate on, “Should pupils in primary school be allowed to use a phone?”
The debate, which pitched Primary 5 against Primary 6, saw the teams argue their points, showcasing their well-researched arguments and critical thinking abilities.
The atmosphere was electrifying as the children eloquently expressed their viewpoints, impressing not only their peers but also the adult attendees.
The children ended their thrilling entertainment with a special song titled ‘Seinye’ making a huge statement with each of the six letters that spelt the name of the Chairman of the O. B. Lulu Briggs Foundation, Dr. Seinye O. B. Lulu-Briggs, who adopted the school in 2006.
