The organizers of the Orange Global Achievement Awards have honoured the Paramount Ruler of Evo Kingdom, His Majesty, King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke, with an outstanding award of Culture and Protagonist of the Year.
The award, according to OGAA, was in recognition of King L. N. Eke’s service and contributions to the promotion of culture and customs.
OGAA also highlighted the exemplary leadership skills and role as a seasoned King, saying he deserved the recognition, explaining that the selection process was transparent, sincere and devoid of favouritism.
Responding, His Majesty, King Leslie N. Eke, thanked God and the organizers of the event for the honour and pledged his commitment to promotion of excellence in the culture and customs of the area.
He said that culture is the image of a people; an image worth developing, celebrating and promoting by all men of goodwill of their time, stressing that the new generation seems to be losing grip of its culture and social relevance for some inexplainable reasons.
According to him, it is a pride to be identified with one’s culture, having been raised in the finest ideals of culture and tradition.
King Eke further said with the infiltration of the culture by western civilization, the beauty of culture and tradition being lost and scarcely cherished which is a huge loss to the new generation.
The monarch lamented that the infiltration of culture has so much affected the traditional institution resulting in rampant chieftaincy tussles among those who do not have stake in the stools.
He remarked that there was a missing link between the old and the present generations with an increasing gap on each passing day.
The monarch also stressed the importance of culture in nation building, noting that it is proper for the new generation to know their background, in order to inculcate sound discipline and respect.
He expressed joy for being identified with a progressive and positive gathering, adding that the award will spur him to be a better promoter of culture and used the medium to call on all relevant agencies saddled with the responsibility to live up to expectation.
