MOSOP-USA Committed To Community Engagement In Ogoniland

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, USA, Chicago Chapter in collaboration with the Council of Ogoni Professionals, USA (COP-USA) has once again demonstrated its civil engagement duties through the donation of 2000 books to Bori Library.

In a statement jointly signed by the Coordinator, MOSOP-USA Chicago Chapter, Elder Ambrose John and the Secretary, MOSOP-USA Chicago Chapter, Dr. Evelyn B. Senewo, MOSOP-USA Chicago stated that the Chapter is in partnership with the Rivers State Library Board, Bori in one of its many community engagement initiatives.

It is worth noting that MOSOP-USA Chicago, is an affiliate of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, USA. It is a non-governmental, apolitical, developmental, cultural and

environmental organization of the Ogoni people resident within and outside the Chicago area of Illinois and committed to the furtherance of the Ogoni non-violent Struggle for survival and development of Ogoniland and people.

The statement further disclosed that among  the 2000 books donated by MOSOP-USA Chicago Chapter and COP-USA, 500 of the books are meant for university students, 500 for primary schools, 500 for secondary school readership, and 500 others general readership and research.

The statement recalled that in 2016 and 2017 respectively, MOSOP-USA, Chicago embarked on educational programme tagged “No Child left Behind” and career enhancement/empowerment programme by giving educational scholarships and skills acquisition funding across all Ogoni local government areas in Ogoni to the tune of 1.42 million naira.

The statement further hinted that in 2010 and 2014, the Organization, following its healthcare campaigns in Ogoniland, had also donated healthcare equipments to all the functional health centres in the five local government areas in Ogoniland. During the periods, according to the statement, MOSOP-USA Chicago Chapter equally donated the

healthcare equipments to Pope John Paul II Clinic at Eeken and Daughters of Charity St. Louise Provincial House, Nchia, Eleme, respectively.

The statement concluded by unveiling MOSOP-USA Chicago Chapter’s initiatives for 2019. It stated that MOSOP-USA Chicago Chapter will partner with FOWA-USA, St Louis in the Ken Saro-Wiwa burial site transformation project, collaborate with all Ogoni local government

areas’ leadership in developmental initiatives, campaign against violence, and for peace in Ogoniland.

In addition, MOSOP-USA Chicago Chapter is poised to expand the ongoing partnership with COP-USA and the Rivers State Library Board to make the Bori Library not only functional but also well suited for study, research, referencing, and general readership.
