Group Tasks NSCDC On Elections
A Non-governmental Governmental Organization, NGO known as YIAGA African “Watching the Vote” (WTV), has called on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, to work for the Safety and Security of the electorates as the 2019 elections draw close.
Leader of the group in Rivers State, Mr. Obinna Ebogidi, made the appeal during his group’s advocacy visit to the headquarters of the NSCDC in Rivers State, located at Olu Obasanjo Road in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Ebogidi restated group’s commitment to an improved electoral process in the country. According to him, one of the group’s concerns was to ensure that voters’ interest and confidence was renewed in the process. He said that plans to involve election observers in the exercise had resulted in a sample covering 157 polling units in the county, including Rivers State, towards the success of the 2019 polls.
The NGO boss tasked the NSCDC to lend its unbiased contributions to the February 16 Presidential election and subsequent elections in the country. Also, he emphasized the need for violent-free polls in the country, which he acknowledged was yet to be realized in the nation’s past election history.
In his response , the State Commandant of NSCDC, Muhammed Lawal Haruna, reaffirmed the commitment of the security organization to be neutral and non- partisan during and beyond the exercise.
