Police Arraign 28-yr-old Man For Illegal Possession of Firearms
The Rivers State Police Command has arraigned a twenty-eight-year-old-man, James Akpan, for illegal possession of firearms.
The accused, who is facing a two-count charge, was brought to court presided over by Chief Magistrate, A.O. Amadi-Nna, in the case prosecuted by Police Inspector, Jonas Rufus.
In the charge sheet in the case between Commissioner of Police and James Akpan ‘male’, 28 years, with the charge number PMC/10C/2019, the two charges against the accused read: “That you James Akpan ‘M’ and others now at large on 20th day of December, 2018 at about 0200 hrs at School Road, Iriebe in Oyigbo Magisterial District but triable in the Port-Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: unlawful possession of firearms and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap RII Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2006.
“That you James Akpan, ‘M’ and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District but triable in the Port-Harcourt Magisterial District did have in your possession or control one locally made pistol gun, a jack knife etc without license or appropriate authority and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 3 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap RII Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2006”.
The accused was released on bail but is expected back in court on 5th February when the case will come up for mention.
