ONELGA Community Inaugurates CDC
…As Royal Father Commends Community/Chieftaincy Affairs Ministry
An 11-man Community Development Committee (CDC) has been inaugurated by the Agbida-Ka-Ogba Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, to pilot its affairs. Those administered the oath of office at the event which held at the Ministry of Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 include Comrade Monday Okoro (Chairman); Eze Edward (Vice Chairman) and Charles Okwu (Secretary General).
Others were Paul Ochu (Publicity Secretary); Princess Joy Osiah (Treasurer) and Jennifer Ogbuji (Financial Secretary). Those who would serve as members include: Ada Okoro, Ndu Aburu, Obulor Okoro, Felicia Osi and Destiny Emmanuel.
Addressing the CDC members, the paramount ruler of Agbida-Ka-Ogba Community, Eze Sabastine Ebere Osiah congratulated them on their well deserved appointment and promised to offer every assistance to make them succeed.
The royal father charged them to be proactive and to place the security of the community in the front burner of their plans and programme, as well as promote causes that will promote unity among the people.
He also commended the Rivers State government through the Community and Chieftaincy Affairs Ministry for their support and successful inauguration.
Eze Osiah used the occasion to call on multinational companies in ONELGA as well as local and state government to address unemployment among youths of the area even as he lamented the absence of roads and portable drinking water.
“Our farm lands have been devastated by the concomitant effect of oil and gas activities, making it impracticable for us to engage on our main source of livelihood. We need a market, health center and recreational facilities for the people”, Eze Osiah declared.
In his acceptance speech, the CDC Chairman, Comrade Monday Okoro expressed satisfaction by the peaceful atmosphere which characterized the event, saying it was a great privilege for him and other members of the CDC to be part of the historic inauguration.
He pledged the loyalty of the CDC to the paramount ruler of Agbida-Ka-Ogba, Eze Sabastine Ebere Osiah and solicited the support and cooperation of all and sundry to make them succeed.
Earlier in her speech, a representative of the Community and Chieftaincy Affairs Commissioner, Mrs Divine Otobo lauded the maturity exhibited by members of the community during the inauguration, adding that government would readily support the development of communities that embrace peace and tranquility.
She advised members of the community to always come to the Ministry for settlement of disputes rather than rushing to the courts.
