IYC Special Chapter Condoles With Sammy George Over Abonnema Day Killings

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Special Chapter has condole with the IYC Chairman Eastern Zone, Comrade Sammy George over what it described as the senseless killings of its members at Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State during the presidential and National Assembly election.

Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, the IYC chairman, Special Chapter, Comrade Sokari Goodboy Sokari said they were saddened at the development.

“We stand by him at this moment of grief and commiserate with the families of these victims, wishing that they bear the irreparable loss with equanimity and equally pray for the repose of their souls,” he stated.

“Beyond that, Comrade Sokari said this heinous acts of barbarism is highly condemnable and unacceptable to the Ijaw nation as a whole.

The IYC Special Chapter joined other stakeholders to call on the Nigerian Army as well as other security agencies to not only call its personnels to  order but to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous act are made to face justice.

Comrade Sokari who was a former aspirant to the Ahoada West State constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly under the PDP platform made it clear that though the Ijaw nation are generally peaceful people, they would resist any attempt by the security agents and their desperate politicians conspirators who seek power at all cost to murder their youths without provocation in future”.

Meanwhile Comarde Sokari has equally urged other Ijaw stakeholders wherever they maybe to stand up against these recouring and constant killings of their people as they are ready to even petition the International Communities on what he called the well designed atrocities.

The IYC Special Chapter Chairman however used the opportunity to suggest to Comrade George the possibility of setting up a strategic plan to secure the life and future of Ijaw Youths through perhaps setting up a committee that would work in conjunction with conventional security agents for their mutual interest.

He equally suggested the setting up of a Special Panel of Inquiry by the IYC Eastern Zone to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the aggression, and a way of avoiding a repeat performance, adding that what happened was indeed a declaration of war against the Ijaw Youths.

Comrade Sokari lamented that politics is supposed to be a contest where the loser should naturally congratulate the winner under a free, fair, peaceful and transparent atmosphere and not the current situation he noted, where desperate politicians would conspire with the security agents and INEC officials to violently manipulate the electoral process to their advantage.
