Wike Speaks On Betrayal Of Political godfathers
By Polycarp Nwaeke
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, delivered a fiery and spiritually charged warning to Nigerian politicians on Saturday, cautioning that those who back betrayal or disloyalty in politics will inevitably face the same fate themselves.
He framed the message as a divine revelation from the “gods of the land,” emphasizing loyalty as both a moral and spiritual imperative.
The remarks came during the commissioning of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The facility, described as the first of its kind in the South-South region, includes,a situation room, office spaces, and operational buses to support grassroots mobilization efforts.
Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, directed his strongest words at second-term governors and other high-ranking officials with ambitions to install successors.
Without naming individuals, his comments appeared to reference ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, particularly his long-standing rift with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whom some reports frame as the target of the “betrayal” accusations.
He stated: “Let me tell you one thing: today is the 7th of February. Whoever is watching, whether you are a senator, a House of Representatives member, whether you are a minister, whether you are a governor, and you support betrayers, people will continue to betray you in life.
Betrayal is your portion. The day you will be betrayed, you will not have a mouth to say anything; there you will collapse.”
Wike escalated the warning for those plotting political succession:
“Watch every governor who is in his second term, who has the ambition to put a successor and is supporting betrayal—you will never survive it.
Betrayal will follow you from the day your successor comes in. My own started late; yours will start immediately the person is inaugurated. This is what the gods of the land have told me to tell you.”
He described betrayal as carrying severe psychological and physical consequences, often leading to collapse or even death, and invoked the principle of reaping what one sows: “Whatever you sow, you will reap.”
Shifting to the 2027 presidential elections, Wike boldly declared that Rivers State remains firmly in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s camp and will deliver massive support for his re-election—without needing the involvement or approval of the sitting state governor. He challenged critics to visit Rivers and witness the commitment firsthand.
“I challenge anybody; let them come to Rivers State and learn. Our commitment is not by mouth, our commitment is not by newspapers; ours is by showing that yes indeed, we are working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
We don’t need to have a governor to mobilize for Mr. President; we don’t need it. We have all it takes to be on our own.” Wike praised the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ state coordinator, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, for effective grassroots efforts across all 23 local government areas. He highlighted strong, cross-party structures— including senators, House members, council chairmen, and leaders from both APC and PDP— already aligned and self-reliant. “Rivers is a no-go area for opposition,” he asserted, “and this state is totally for Tinubu.”
