Why You Need To Rest – Clergyman

Christian faithful have been called upon to accommodate relaxation in their schedules by taking a cue from God who rested after creation.

Making the charge, the Minister-in-charge of Rhema Chapel International Churches, Port Harcourt, Supo Oloageshin stated this during Sunday Service, which culminated in the evening impartation service that ended the ministry’s second-half of the year fasting.

“You need to take a rest whenever you need to. You need to find what relaxes you. That way you can avoid executive complex; if I am not there, nobody can handle it,” he stated after taking a quote from the Bible, Ecclesiastics 5-12 which says ‘The sleep of a labouring man is sweet’.

He noted that the message became imperative based on the ministry’s theme for the month, which emphased ‘refreshing’.

According to him, there were things that make for relaxation and refreshing which he listed as vacation, exercises, good news, answered prayers among others.

But he called on the congregation to make the Word of God their attraction, saying “when the word of God no longer holds attraction to you, that is spiritual dryness. Part of the way to make God happy, he observed, was to make friends for God, that is to have an agenda for somebody’s salvation”.

But he threw more light on the need for refreshing experience by Christians which he analysed us two-fold, physical and spiritual.

On the physical, he urged that since man is made up of the body, spirit and soul rest became an important part of living in order to nourish the body. On the spiritual dimension, he reasoned that this would require for a man to stay in fellowship with his maker through the Word of God, prayer, praise and worship.

But the Minister-in-Charge emphasized the fact that the most refreshing experience in God comes from the Holy Spirit, being the Comforter.

He called on Christians to Crave the in-filling and the in-dwelling of the Spirit of God. According to him, when a Christian is harmed with all the prescriptions, he would operate better in the power of the Holy Spirit resident in him.

He ended his sermon on a note that the idea of rest was God’s invention which he exercised after creating man.
