MOMTA Elects New Exco
The Rumuwoji Ultra Modern Mile One Market Traders Association (MOMTA) Diobu, Port Harcourt in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State has finally elected new executive to pilot its affairs in the next two years after a protracted crisis.
The election which was held at the PHALGA Council was conducted by the Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Victor Ihunwo.
Those elected included Mr. Ndubueze Eze Enyiche, chairman; Mr. Athanasius Ironna (Sokey) 1st Vice chairman; Chief Kola Adeleke, 2nd Vice Chairman; Mr. Jude Chinedu Onuoha, Secretary and Mr. Blessed Emma Orji, Asst. Secretary. Others were Mrs. Blessing Oluchi Paul, Treasurer; Mr. Chinedu Maxwell, Financial Secretary; Mrs. Grace Nkemdirim Owabie, Welfare Officer; Mr. Kennedy Chukwu, Publicity Secretary; Mr. Livinus Uzosike, Provost I and Mr. Ikechukwu Ogbuagu, Provost II.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of his colleagues, the Union Chairman, Mr. Enyiche thanked the Port Harcourt Mayor for not only fulfilling his promises of conducting an election for them in a very short notice but ensuring that it was free, fair, credible, transparent and acceptable to all.
He promised to work in synergy with the Mayor who is popularly known as “excess power” to achieve set goal.
Speaking shortly after the election, the Eleco Chairman and deputy Mayor, Hon (Mrs) Fiberesima thanked her boss for giving her committee the opportunity to serve the people in that capacity and as well thanked the traders for their peaceful conduct which made their assignment very easy and advised the traders to ensure that the Mile One Market enjoy some form of peace which in turn will engender development.
Administering the oath of office to the Executive members of the market, the council’s Legal Adviser, Mr. Godson Dike praised the Mayor, Hon. Ihunwo for being a detribalized leader who ensured that the right thing was done in the market by providing a level playing ground and advised the traders to reciprocate the gesture by being loyal and cooperative with his administration.
Inaugurating the Exco members, the Mayor of Port Harcourt admonished the traders to ensure that they lead the people with utmost caution, transparency and the fear of God.
He promised to collaborate effort with the traders to sanitize the place and restore the market to its former glory.
“Whatever decision you want to take, ensure that you consult widely and carry the people along before arriving at a generally accepted one that will benefit everybody including the allocation of the market stalls”, he declared.
The PHALGA mayor informed the Exco members and indeed the entire traders that his office is open for them at all times for collaboration to achieve set goal and appealed for their support and cooperation to the Wike administration.
Speaking with newsmen shortly afterward, one of the kingmakers in the market, High Chief Stainless Emenike “Akunesiobike of Dikenafia” Ideato South LGA of Imo State thanked God that the market which has been into litigation for a long time now has finally gotten a democratically elected executives curtesy the mayor of Port Harcourt.
The elder statesman also thanked the Divisional Police Officer, Mile One CSP Yahaya Hassan for his effort in providing security at the venue which he noted contributed to the success story.
He equally promised to ensure that the leadership is properly guided to lead the traders to the Promised Land.
