Leave Good Legacies, Clergyman Charges Aged Parents

As the world celebrated the 2019 grandparents day recently, the aged who are privileged to have their children grand children and around them have been advised to ensure they leave behind a lasting legacy, by enthroning positive values in their family lines.

This was part of the message preached at Rhema Chapel International Churches, Port Harcourt, as the ministry joined others in according special recognition to the grandparents in her fold.

The Minister-in Charge (M.I.C) of the installation, Supo Olageshin, stressed the fact that grandparents are persons of influence in their families. He stated that their influence would continue to be far reaching through generations. He drew example from the Scriptures where Timothy grandmother inculcated in him the right values that shaped Timothy’s lifestyle later in life.

“Grandmas are wonderful people, but little attention is paid to them in this generation. It would interest you to know that Timothy, in the Bible, lived by the right values of his grandmother,” he stated as three women who were grandmas were presented before the church for appreciation.

He also pointed out that how a child turns out in a family was a function of the type of legacies left by the grandparents, adding that the trend would remain a repetition of roles in parenting.

Those identified (all women) were showered with gift items in the church, followed by a photo session that capped the event.

Earlier, at a separate session when the Word of God was preached to the congregation, the M.I.C who spoke of the theme of the church for the month of September, ‘Going Forward’ restated before the congregation why it is important for individuals to go forward in life, saying that it was God’s commandment to man in his Word (Exodus 14:15-16) According to him, it is man’s responsibility to respond by obeying the command. He also said that if any man refuses to move forward, such a person will be giving the enemy leeway to catch up with him, adding that not going forward can cause frustration for people in life. He advised that one of the surest ways to move forward in life is for Christians to improve on their prayer lives.
