Militancy Is Not Your Calling CDC Chair Tells Ogoni Youths

The Community Development Committee Chairman (CDC) of Nonwa in Tai Local Government Area, Mr. Nkordo Barika Nyanga has warned the youths of Ogoni to stay away from militancy and other criminal activities in the area, saying it’s not their calling and they cannot survive with it.

He made the call at his country home in Nonwa shortly after he was inaugurated as the CDC chairman of the area, stressing that militancy is alien to the custom and tradition of the people and should be condemned in its entirety.

Nkordo who described the Ogoni as hardworking and peace loving people who are law abiding, wondered why the youths are taken after violence. He insisted that violent is not the way out, enjoining them to toe the part of peace.

According to him “If you go to Omoku, Okrika and other parts of the Riverine, their militants are very wealth but our so called militants, what do they have, nothing so, that is why, we are calling on them to stop the killing because an Ogoni man is not a thief by nature. They should stop being lazy or believing that the only way for them to make it is by carrying guns”.

The CDC chairman while thanking the chairman of Tai Local Government Hon. Jacobson Nbina and members of the legislative Assembly for their efforts in promogating a law for unified system of CDC administration in Tai, he maintained that the system was not new to Nonwa people because, they were already practicing it before the law was enacted, stressing that the people of Nonwa are excited that the council chairman had come up with such development.

On the security situation of Nonwa, he posited that Nonwa is peaceful stressing that there are influx of people in to the area on daily basis because of the peaceful nature of the community “people are trooping into Nonwa on daily basis because it’s one of the fastest growing community, not only in Tai but all over Ogoni because of the level of peace provided.

Nkordo who however call on both the federal and state government to develop Nonwa Community as an oil bearing community condemned some traditional rulers in the area for sideline Nonwa from the unep clean up, adding that Nonwa currently have four oil well, yet the community was not listed in unep report.

Also he condemned the recent clean up in Ogoni, saying what is going on in the area is not clean up but political fallacy.
