Rumuwoji Market Traders Appeal To Gov Wike To Reconsider Stand On Shop Allocation
The Elders Advisory Committee (EAC) of Rumuwoji Mile One Market Traders has appealed to the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to discountenance all he has heard and read regarding the allocation of shops in the recently commissioned phase two of the market but to compassionately remember and consider the victims of the burnt market who owned two to three shops and had lost everything when he is ready for the allocation.
A member of the committee, Mrs. Kate Akor stated this in a chat with newsmen over the weekend in Port Harcourt. She confessed that the traders hold the governor in high esteem because he came to their rescue to rebuild the market when previous administration shied away from the project, adding that it would be foolhardy for anybody or group to pressurize or arm twist the governor on the allocation of the completed shops.
“We are only appealing to him to compassionately consider our plight as most of us who owned shops at the burnt site are just squatting in our present site and would be eternally grateful if we get our shops back through whatever method the governor deem fit,” she declared.
She made it known that governor Wike is generally regarded as Ikwerre first son who is divinely sent to restore Rivers State and should be supported by all to achieve set goal.
“I know he has heard a lot of “Bakaru Bakuru” (them say, them say). He should not mind those troublemakers. Chief Y.O.C. Georgewill for instance who is giving the governor a seven days ultimatum to rescind his statement on balloting system where was he when the previous administration leased out the site for 100 years without regards to the suffering shop owners?” she queried.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women leader in the market while commending the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area boss, Hon. Victor Nyeche Ihunwo for successfully conducting an election for the market union which she noted also eluded them for many years, equally used the opportunity to appeal to him for him to join forces with the state governor to restore lasting peace in the market as according to her some persons are bent on causing everlasting crisis in the market for their personal benefits.
Mrs. Akor equally used the chance to withdraw the statement credited to the committee in their recent press interview with this medium where some names were dropped.
She said” “Though everything said in the said publication is true but after a stormy debate with the executives, we were pressurized to withdraw the offending statement for the peace and tranquility of the young executives and the traders in general and so we are withdrawing the statement,” she declared.
