Attempted Murder: Armed Robbery Suspects Appear  In Court

Two armed robbery suspects have appeared in Port-Harcourt Magistrate Court for alleged attempted murder and at Rumuolumeni, Port-Harcourt in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The two suspects were arraigned by Rivers State Police Command on Thursday, 10 October, 2019 before Senior Magistrate Lenu S. Baridam in charge number PMC/1966c/2019 between Commissioner of Police and Hassan Adamu and Samaila Muhamed, both aged 25.

However the case could not proceed on Thursday, 10 October because the suspects said they did not understand English and could not take any plea.

The presiding magistrate adjourned the case to 13 November, 2019 by which time there will have been interpreters for the two armed robbery suspects to take their plea.

However, a reliable source who spoke on condition of anonymity said that there are five counts against the armed robbery suspects which will be read to them on the adjourned date.

A copy of the charge sheet obtained said: “That you Hassan Adamu ‘m’ and Samaila Muhamed ‘m’ and others now at large on the 2nd day of September, 2019 at about 02:45 hours at No. 50 Ohelem Street, Rumuolumeni, Port-Harcourt in the Port-Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Armed robbery and Unlawful possession of Firearm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 6 (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RII, LFN, 2004.

“That you Hassan Adamu ‘m’ Samaila Muhamed ‘m’ and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District while armed with AK47 rifle, one locally made pistol and other dangerous weapons did rob one Techno Phone valued fifty-five thousand naira only (N55,000.00), property of one Hon. Denis Philip and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section I, (2), (a), (b)  of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RII, LFN, 2004”.

Two other charges against the suspects said they allegedly robbed a Police Inspector, Okuma Unuachor, attached to Special Protection Unit, Base 19, Port-Harcourt, of his AK 47 rifle and eight rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition and also allegedly attempted to kill him by shooting him on his leg and inflicting matchet cut on his head.

Another charge said that the two armed robbery suspects allegedly had in their possession one AK 47 rifle, one locally made pistol and eight rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition without license and committed an offence punishable under Section 3 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RII, LFN, 2004.

The court ordered that the two suspects be remanded in custody until the adjourned date.

Prosecuting Officer in the matter is Inspector Ochogwu Wilberforce.
