Nwanosike Flags Off Construction Of New Secretariat
Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State will soon have new Council Secretariat as Chairman of the local government area Hon. (Engr) Samuel Nwanosike flagged off construction of the new Secretariat on Friday.
The flag off was also for renovation of old secretariat with perimeter fencing and new gate.
Nwanosike said in his address at the ceremony that building a new secretariat was in line with his campaign promise last year.
He said: “Before the inception of this administration, our plans for infrastructural development of the various towns and villages within Ikwerre Local Government Area were well-thought-out. It’s also on the record that during our electioneering campaign, we had outlined the programmes and activities that must be undertaken by this administration.
“Specifically, we had resolved that this administration will embark on the renovation, construction and reconstruction of markets, schools, town halls, internal roads, drainage, health centres and building of a befitting Secretariat in the Council to house the workers of Ikwerre Local Government Area”.
He said the project will be completed in six months and said he will continue to advance the collective interests of people in the thirteen wards and fourteen communities in the local government area.
He also said he would improve the working conditions of staff of the local government area.
He thanked the governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, for opportunity to serve his people saying he will bring dividends of democracy to them.
Those who made solidarity speeches at the event thanked the Council Chairman for his vision to build a new Secretariat.
In his solidarity speech, the lawmaker representing Ikwerre Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Anselem Oguguo, said the Council Chairman was keeping promises he made during electioneering.
He described Hon. Nwanosike as man of capacity and credibility and commended him for toeing the line of the state governor in execution of projects.
The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in the local government area, Hon. Sunny Wondikom, said in his solidarity speech that the Chairman of the local government area was doing well and thanked workers in the local government area for supporting him.
Paramount Ruler of Ancient Isiokpo Kingdom and Chairman of Council of Traditional Rulers in Ikwerre Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty King Blessing Wagor, thanked the Council Chairman for conceiving the idea of building new Secretariat saying that his name will be in the history books of the local government.
In his solidarity speech, the Leader of legislative arm in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Nwobuisi Chikwu Tasie, while thanking the Chairman for his leadership said funds and every other thing connected with the project were “in consonance” with the law.
Others who made solidarity speeches also thanked the Chairman for the idea of new council Secretariat and appealed to the youth to be peaceful and co-operative.
