Obuah Charges Pastors To Build For God, Not Self

…As He Ministers At Assemblies Of God Church

The Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah may have acquired fame as a business mogul, politician, environmentalist, sports administrator and philanthropist; but one salient side of him that is unknown to many is his knack for evangelizing the word of God.

Close associates and his numerous admirers would easily attest that the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area-born business tycoon, renowned Choir Master and member of the Church of God (Seventh Day), in course of his characteristic philanthropic gestures, never fails to acknowledge the fact that his wealth and position in life has never been the product of his ability or capability but made possible through the saving grace of God.

As a Guest Minister at the Assemblies of God Church, 92 Ojoto Street, Diobu, Port Harcourt on Sunday, October 27, 2019, Bro. Obuah mounted the pulpit and delivered an awe-inspiring sermon which drew spontaneous applause from the beginning to the close of service.

The guest preacher in a message he titled ‘I will Build My Church (Matt. 16:18)’, said he had come ‘loaded’, but stressed that those who expected to get money from him would be disappointed, noting he had rather come to give them ‘everlasting bread’ which would sustain them for a lifetime.

He said the title of his message was drawn from a lecture he presented 15 years ago at a parish of Assemblies of God in Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area, stating that the son of one of those who received the pamphlet from that lecture had invited him and requested that he repeat the message, having been immensely blessed by it 15 years back.

Bro. Obuah regretted that contemporary preachers had misconstrued the subject to mean building a physical structure for the Lord.

According to him, pastors in this school of thought dissipate their strength, energy and resources by engaging in prosperity preaching and ending up building earthly empire for themselves for the singular motive of self enrichment.

His words: “Many pastors are getting it wrong, they want to build their own church and in the process, they have destroyed the church. This verse of scripture is actually a statement that emanated from when Jesus sat his disciples down and sought to know whom they thought he was.

“At Peter’s correct answer, Jesus told him that neither flesh nor blood had revealed it but His Father who was in Heaven and that upon the rock, he would build his church”.

Adding that that was the genesis of the statement, Obuah regretted that many ministers of the gospel have failed to catch the revelation, noting that the church and not politicians, are responsible for most of the ‘problems of the world’.

He described the church variously as ‘Assembly of God’s people’, ‘the Called-out’ and those given the duty to go to all nooks and crannies of the world to preach God’s word, stressing that the Church is about the believer and not a physical structure.

Bro. Obuah also described the church as a commitment, citing Abraham who built the church in ‘tithes and offerings’ even as he further sees the church as a connection, adding that anyone who gives must receive from God.

The preacher who sang traditional native gospel songs intermittently during the service to the admiration of the congregation, affirmed that those who understood the spiritual concept of the church would not discriminate against or envy another church of God.

The State PDP Chairman while stressing the need for unity among Christians noted that in Heaven there is no church affiliation.

Praying for the church, Bro. Obuah circulated the pamphlet containing his message to everyone in the congregation and urged them to give their resources to build the church.

Bro. Obuah announced a total donation of N5.5 million to the church. The breakdown of his donation shows a N1million each from the PDP and RIWAMA respectively while he gave N3.5million for himself and family.
