Newsmen Enjoined To Dress Properly
Head of service to Rivers State Government, Rufus Godwins, has urged Journalists and Information officers in the state to always dress properly and not be unkempt.
The Head of Service made the assertion recently in Port Harcourt at a workshop organized by the State Ministry of Information to improve the efficiency and productivity of media personnel.
Mr Godwins said that journalists must dress responsibly in order to avoid negative perception about them by the public. According to him, journalists must be responsible both in dressing and attitude.
Mr Godwins also urged media personnel not to distort fact in their reportage, stressing that facts are sacred and should not be altered. He said that irresponsible journalism brings libel cases to media houses.
The Head of Service described facts as raw materials which a journalist uses in creating story while urging media personnel to always abide by the tenets and ethics of the journalism profession.
Meanwhile, Professor G.B Okon, a Mass Communication lecturer in Rivers State University, in his speech revealed that social media cannot take the place of conventional media because news and story on the conventional media have more credibility than that of the social media.
He also argued that many social media write-ups and stories do not conform to ethics of journalism as is in the case of conventional media.
