Group Mobilizes Support For Akpabio

A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in the Niger Delta region, the Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PAFOND) has started mobilizing support for the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio to be allowed to continue the good works they say he has initiated in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the overall benefit of the generality of the people.

In a communiqué released by the Forum after its emergency meeting over the weekend in Port Harcourt, it appealed to the National Assembly members from the South-South Zone of the country and indeed the Niger Delta leaders to drop their personal interest and give the minister maximum support for the steps taken so far to reposition the intervention agency, adding that the region from all indication, remains backward despite trillions of naira sunk into the Commission.

The Forum further appealed to Akpabio himself not to abandon his Ministerial post to go for the re-run election of the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District as ordered by the Appeal Court recently, explaining that his wealth of experience and magic wand would be better felt and more useful to the people of Niger Delta in the Ministry than in the upper chambers.

“Senator Akpabio by his track record of achievement as a Senator and a two-time governor of Akwa Ibom State is the only one that has the magic wand to turn around the fortunes of the Niger Delta region for the good of the people”, they stated.

The communiqué which was signed by the Forum’s National chairman, Mr. Owo Udoh and National Secretary, Mr. Daniel Wilson respectively warned that the region will not support anybody or group who would sabotage the Senator’s efforts and genuine developmental activities of his ministry.

They made it clear that the forum would collaborate effort with the minister and his team to actualize the Federal Government’s development plan for the region.
