Group Lauds Buhari Over Repositioning Of NDDC
A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the aegis of Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PAFOND) has commended the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari for steps taken so far to reposition the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to achieve set goal.
The group stated this in a communiqué signed by Mr. Owo Udoh and Mr. Daniel Wilson, National Chairman and National Secretary respectively at the end of its meeting recently.
The Forum while commending the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio for heeding to their advice not to abandon his ministerial post to go for the Akwa Ibom North/West Senatorial District Re-run election as according to them, Akpabio would be more useful in the Ministry than in the red chambers, they used the opportunity to appeal to Niger Deltans and indeed other well-meaning Nigerians to support the Minister to actualize federal govt’s development plans for the Niger Delta region.
The Forum urged Senator Akpabio to immediately hit the ground running in his developmental agenda as there is no much time left for the administration.
“The Minister should as a matter of urgency start roads reconstruction/dualization as well as other developmental projects abandoned in the region for so long, especially roads within the region and those that link the region with other neighbouring states in order to drive the economic and industrialization activities of the region” according to the Forum.
The Forum equally used the opportunity to appeal to the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to complement Akpabio’s efforts by ensuring that the on-going rail project from Lagos state cut across the States of the South/South region to boost her economic activities.
The group also urged the former Rivers State Governor to intensify effort in making “Ibaka” deep seaport in Akwa Ibom State and other proposed Seaports in the South-South region a reality in order to unlock the economic activities of the region.
