Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Rivers State Office, Hon. (Dr.) Ipalibo Harry has appealed to the people of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State to support the Commission in carrying out the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise in their area.
Dr. Harry made the appeal during the flag-off of the exercise in Saakpenwa, the headquarters of Tai Local Government Area on Monday, January 6, 2020.
The National Commissioner told the people that the EAD is not census but constitutes the foundation on which the entire census architecture stands, saying it forms the basis for both planning and execution of the census project.
According to him, EAD is the vehicle that drives the entire process in the pre-census, actual enumeration and post census period and involves the division of the whole landmass of the country into small units that can easily be covered by a team of enumerators during the census.
Explaining further, he said that the commission has continued to deploy sophisticated technology in carrying out the EAD, adding that the methodology for the demarcation is designed to achieve full Geographic Information System (GIS) compliance, high resolution satellite imagery which covers the entire country is used to ensure that no area is left undemarcated and no place is duplicated.
The State Director of the Commission, Mr. Jumbobaraye M. Daka in his address emphasized the crucial role of EAD for the people, saying it is one of the key steps towards the successful conduct of the next population and Housing census.
He said that over 50 demarcators would be on ground for comprehensive coverage of the area and that the exercise is expected to last 3 weeks running concurrently in 19 local government areas in 18 states across the country.
Responding, President of the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, HRM Godwin N. K. Gininwa, Gbenemene Tai, assured the commission of total cooperation from the people of Tai.
The monarch also enjoined the people of Tai to see the exercise as an instrument of development and also to ensure that they take the enumerators to all nooks and crannies of Tai so that no part of the area would be left out.
The Chairman of Tai LGA, Dr. Jacobson Nbina on his part promised to provide adequate security and logistics for the smooth running of the exercise.
