Vigilante Escapes Armed Robbers Bullet By Whiskers
A vigilante personnel who keeps watch at Abuja by pass in Mile 3 Slaughter, Diobu Port Harcourt narrowly escaped death on Friday morning after he was shot by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers.
A source at the market told National Network that the gunmen shot the vigilante man simply identified as ‘Zaga’ when he reportedly made attempts to stop the invading hoodlums from breaking into a shop in the area.
Our source said that the hoodlums hurriedly left the scene after shooting the vigilante man.
We gathered that other members of the group and the Police who arrived minutes later rushed him to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
Reports say there was panic among members of the security group who believed that they were now being targeted by gunmen.
Reports said the vigilante members have stopped keeping watch at the place after the incident.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, was yet to respond to text messages sent to his mobile line by National Network reporter as at time of filing this report.
An executive of Goat Meat Sellers Association who did not want his name in print confirmed the incident.
He explained that the hoodlums might have shot the vigilante member to weaken their morale and strike fear in them so that they will abandon the job and criminals will have liberty to rob people in the area.
It would be recalled that a vigilante personnel was also killed by unknown gunmen in Ojiegbu street close to Mile 3 Market.
