COVID-19: CAN Announces April 20 – 26 For Statewide Prayer, Praises
Consequent upon the directives of the national leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Rivers State Chairman of CAN, Most Special Apostle Stanley Dimkpa, Phd has called out the churches in the state to observe the on-going 7 days praise-prayer against the dreaded coronavirus disease.
In a statement made available to the press, CAN said the programme will commence from Monday 20th – Sunday 26th April, 2020, it stated that the programme is expected to last for a maximum of 30 minutes daily every morning to be conducted at home with one’s family members or in the churches with few congregation.
In the spirit of oneness, the chairman reminded the revered Ministers of God and in indeed all the church leaders of the need to get involved in the nationwide programme.
Quoting from the Bible, the chairman said “I most heartily say of the Lord, He is our refuge and our fortress; our God in him we shall continue to trust.
“Surely the Almighty God shall deliver us from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence (COVID-19 pandemic).”
In view of the above assurances, Apostle Dimkpa used the opportunity to appreciate God for curbing the spread of the disease in Rivers State by granting the health workers and others, the knowledge for the development and production of effective drugs for the management and treatment of the pandemic.
The CAN chairman expressed gratitude to God that Rivers State maintains no case situation over the dreaded infection, when others are witnessing new positive cases on daily basis.
The man of God equally used the opportunity to commend Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and expressed gratitude to God for the cooperation exhibited by everybody and proactive measures taken by the government and all concerned agencies in the state to fight the spread of the deadly disease as well as the decision of cushioning the suffering of the residents by providing palliatives.
He however lamented the exclusion of the CAN leadership in the palliative distribution committee which he observed has to a great extent sidelined most poor Christians from benefitting from the very good gesture of the governor.
“We would continue however to appreciate the various church leaders, multinational companies as well as sons and daughters of Rivers State for their efforts and contributions in providing some support both to the state government and the masses while we still encourage others to emulate and do same”, he declared.
