One Reported Dead As Deygbam, Iceland Fight Over Control Of Illegal Market
One person is said to be feared dead on Monday morning following a battle between suspected Iceland and Deybam cult group over who collects ‘security fee’ at an illegal market located at Ekwe, Ikom, National Streets, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Eyewitness told our reporter that suspected Deygbam cult group stormed the market and reportedly told their rival that they should be allowed to collect the ‘security fee’ for the day but their opponents refused which resulted to a fight.
Our source said one of the suspected cultists known as Chisco believed to be a member of Iceland cult group was shot and is feared dead.
Our correspondent who visited the scene saw different police patrol vans belonging to Nkpolu Divisional Police headquarters, Mile 3 and tactical units of the Rivers State Police Command stationed at the place.
Some traders who spoke on condition of anonymity told our reporter that many passersby and traders selling at the illegal market where the incident occurred were arrested by the police.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Nnamdi Omoni, did not pick several calls put across to him neither did he respond to text messages sent to his mobile phone.
Security sources confirmed the incident to our reporter.
It would be recalled that National Network had reported exclusively how hoodlums suspected to be cultists engaged in free for all fight over ‘security fee’ of the illegal market.
As at the time of filing this report feelers emerging from the area suggest that there may be reprisal attacks if adequate security Is not provided by the Police and other security agents.
