Suspected Member Of ‘Ghana Police’ Robbery Gang Arrested In Rivers
Information available to National Network Newspaper indicates that Eagle Crack Police unit, Diobu, Port Harcourt in conjunction with local vigilante last week Thursday arrested one ‘Merit’ said to be a member of notorious armed robbery gang nicknamed ‘Ghana Police’ believed to be terrorizing Diobu residents following the lockdown and closure of markets by the Rivers State Government as a measure to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the world.
The source said following weeks of discreet investigation by security agents, ‘Merit’ was arrested at a drinking bar at Ojoto street Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt while the second and 4th in command of the group escaped.
The source disclosed that the group has the notion that Ghanaian Police is more efficient and powerful than the Nigerian Police hence they decided to go by the name.
We learned that the ‘Ghana Police’ has structure like that of police formation where the leader of the group is referred to as DPO, second in command, DCO, third in command DCO II,etc. Sources say the group is led by a physically challenged man in his early twenties.
As at press time, we gathered that the arrested suspect has been going round with the police to identify some members of the group.
Security sources confirmed the arrest adding that the second in command narrowly escaped.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nnamdi Omoni did not deny or confirm the arrest of the suspect when contacted by our reporter .
