As a show of human kindness, the paramount ruler of Idu-Ogba community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area, Eze Uche Umejuru has appealed to good-spirited people of the area to assist the less privilege with palliatives following the hard times occasioned by the covid-19 pandemic.
Eze Umejuru, the Okwu-Onu-Ka-Oha of Idu Ogba said there is no better time to demonstrate the traditional hospitality of ONELGAN people, than now when all economic and social activities have been brought to standstill, making life almost unbearable for the masses.
“Let me tell you this truth that ONELGA does not have much rich people but as they say, a little drop of water makes a big ocean. It is not about the size of money and relief materials but the spirit behind the gesture”, he said.
The youthful traditional ruler, who showered encomiums on the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah over the recent donation of food items, masks and hand sanitizers to indigent persons in Orashi region, noted that since all fingers are not equal, no amount of sacrifice for the less privilege in ONELGA would be too small or big.
“We thank God for the relative peace that has returned to ONELGA but we must acknowledge that there are still some aggrieved persons who are yet to return home. They have the right to express their anger because of the huge losses suffered during the crisis.
“But my humble appeal to them is to forget the past and move on with life. They should come to the aid of the hapless poor in ONELGA who are now being ravaged by hunger virus”, he begged.
On the total lockdown clamped on Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor local government areas of the State as part of measures to stem the spread of coronavirus in the state, Eze Umejuru appealed for the understanding of the people, saying the governor does not intend to punish the people but to contain what he called a looming calamity.
“The truth, I believe, is that the governor did not do it deliberately but due to the stubbornness of the people. Take the Rumuokoro, Aluu and Choba axis for example, the governor had severally warned that he would lockdown these places but the people continued to trade unhindered. So what Governor Wike has done is in the best interest of the people.
“However my passionate appeal to our dear governor is for him to tamper justice with mercy. If you beat your child with one hand, you use the other hand to pacify him. Let the lockdown not be too long, at least let it be two, three days so that other law abiding citizens will not die of hunger”, he appealed.
