KELGA: Adanta, Nkarahen Natives Protest ‘Abduction’ Of Youths By Suspected OSPAC
There is palpable tension in Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area(KELGA) over alleged ‘abduction’ of some youths in Adanta and Nkarahen villages by gunmen suspected to be members of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee(OSPAC) last Sunday.
A native of Adanta Community who identified himself as Amadi Mgbenihu, in a telephone interview with our reporter disclosed that the Elders of the community and the Councilor representing the Ward clashed with the OSPAC men, claiming that the community “does not host OSPAC and wondered why OSPAC from another community would invade Isiokpo in any guise without the knowledge of the Police or elders of the community”.
Mr. Amadi decried what he described as constant extortion and regular invasion of the community by OSPAC suspected to come from Aluu community in the LGA.
Information also has it that the community on Monday morning reported the incident to OSPAC headquarters at Omoku, ONELGA; Council Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike and to the Rivers State Police Command.
Some natives of the community in a chat with our reporter urged the Council Chairman of Ikwerre LGA to caution OSPAC personnel suspected to come from neighboring communities in the LGA to avert looming communal crisis.
When contacted, the Press Secretary to Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Chris Omodu could not be reached on his phone line. But an inside source in the council who would not want his identity disclosed told our reporter that no innocent person was arrested by OSPAC.
The source revealed that a joint operation by OSPAC in the LGA that got information that some gang members of a wanted criminal were at Ogbodo (and not Adanta or Nkarahen) and quickly mobilized to the place where members of the gang were arrested.
