Police Confirm Murder Of Youth Leader In Etche
Less than one week after the Rivers State Police Command nabbed 52- year-old Ndubuisi Anthony, a suspected serial killer in Umuebule 1, Etche Local Government Area and recovered decomposing bodies and three human skulls from his septic tank, the Command has again confirmed the murder of one Godwin Njoku, identified as the immediate past Youth President of Umuebule 1 Community.
Although police are yet to find the killers of Njoku, who is popularly called Biggy, sources told National Network that the deceased was until his brutal killing in the early hours of Thursday, a land speculator said to be at the centre of many land transactions in and around the community.
A source, who craved to remain anonymous, said the murder might not be unconnected with issues of land tussles and other communal issues in the area, adding that the cruel manner in which Biggy was killed sent panic to residents in the community.
National Network gathered that the absence of security men and good road network in the area, were responsible for the prevalence of crime in the area.
Another source who also pleaded anonymity, said the killing of Biggy may come as a relief to many residents who claim the deceased was notorious for dispossessing people of their legitimate lands and properties.
But a source who simply identified herself as Mercy dismissed any claim of extortionists tendencies against the late former youth leader. “On the contrary, he was a peacemaker and hates injustice.
“He made money legitimately as land agent who earns his deserved commission from lands and buildings sold or let to people, she said.
She added that people feared him because of his huge physical frame, adding that Biggy was also engaged to settle cases, especially when richer or stronger fellows attempt to cheat the weaker person.
Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident to journalists, saying that information at his disposal was still sketchy, but added that investigation was ongoing.
He said: “I can confirm the development to you. But, at the moment, the information I have is still sketchy”.
