Military Personnel Allegedly Ransack Street Over Light Disconnection
There was tension at Ogbakiri (former Awkuzu) Street, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt last Thursday after a military personnel stormed the area following reported obstruction of officials of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company from disconnecting light supply of compounds which defaulted on payment.
We gathered a resident of one of the compounds located at Akwuzu/Ikwerre street had told a PHED official who was on a ladder to disconnect light that the compound are going to the office of PHED to make their payment that morning but the PHED personnel still disconnected the power supply to the compound.
The source revealed that the action of the PHED personnel infuriated the residents who allegedly pulled the ladder the official of PHED was standing on to carry out disconnection at the electric pole which would have resulted to the official falling down from the ladder.
We learned that the PHED official who left the street with his colleagues came back minutes later with the military personnel who were fully armed and went from house to house to search for persons living in the affected compounds.
Our reporter who visited the scene saw four military personnel and PHED officials who engaged in disconnection of light supply of defaulting compounds as well as compounds who were up to date in payment of light bill.
