…I Will Miss Everything She Stood For, Cries Lawyer Son
Tributes and testimonials flowed freely on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the funeral service of Late Madam Priscilia Werigwara Wori (nee Wodi) which held at the magnificent St. Paul’s (Anglican) Cathedral, Garrison in Diobu, Port Harcourt.
It was an outburst of emotion as her children, grand-children, family members, friends and well-wishers took turns to pour accolades on the woman who lived 75 years on earth, living not just for herself but positively touched the lives of all who met her one way or the other.
As the St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir sang ‘Count Your Blessings, Name them One by One’ to set the stage for the solemn event, the officiating minister, Rev. Canon Gideon Genka took time to encapsulate the sterling qualities of the late septuagenarian, reading from the over 28 tributes written inside the funeral booklet.
Delivering a sermon which he titled: ‘Only Remembered By What We Have Done’, said everyone will be remembered by what he has done and not what he acquired on earth.
He emphasized the need for God’s children to live their lives for God and humanity, stressing the fact that the deceased woman died on a Palm Sunday, a ‘Triumphant Entry Day’, spoke volume of her place in God’s heart.
As the body of Madam Wori lay in the casket, draped in the Anglican Women colors, Rev. Genka charged all present at the service to take out time to read the testimonies concerning the late Madam Wori, adding that so much lesson would be learnt from the life of the septuagenarian.
“Mama has left legacies to be celebrated. She left legacies for the children, relations, well wishers and the business community in Ogbum-Nu-Abali.
We can only be remembered by what we have done”, the man of God reechoed.
The minister pointed out four inhibiting factors that constrained Christians in their walk of faith.
“The number one and greatest problem is sin. Happily, Christ solved this by dying on the cross of calvary. Second problem is defeat. Again, Jesus solved this by defeating defeat.
“The third challenge is fear, and again if your life is hid in Christ, you don’t have to be afraid because Christ has given us the spirit of sound mind and not fear. Problem number four is our greatest enemy, the devil.
But you should realize we have been assured that the ultimate end of the devil is in the pit of hell fire while our assured place is at the right hand of God in heaven”, he said.
The long but glorious final journey of the woman who until her death, was Chairperson of Ogbotu and Ogbum-Nu-Abali No. 1, ended as she was interred at husband’s house at No. 7 Trans-Amadi Road, Port Harcourt.
Her first son and a prominent Port Harcourt based lawyer, Barrister Wori Nyeche Wori in his tribute, wrote succinctly:
“I cannot thank you less for everything you did in my life culminating in my becoming a lawyer.
I will miss you so dearly. I will miss your motherly advice. I will miss everything you stood for”.
