Issue-Based Development Magazine Launched In Port-Harcourt

An issue-based developmental magazine – the Niger Delta Report Magazine International – has been launched in Port-Harcourt to address issues in Niger Delta.

Speaking at the launch, the Vice Chairman of Board of Directors, Mrs Edirinverere Doris Gharoro, who is also in charge of marketing, said they had conceived the idea for the magazine and it is a dream they want to drive home.

Also speaking, a director on the board in charge of external relations, Evang. Mrs Isoken Lucky Akpojevwa, said that it is a developmental magazine which will bring about a paradigm shift in the Niger Delta.

She said the magazine will enlighten the youths to think differently saying that it will also give voice nationally and internationally to the region.

Mrs Lucky Akpojevwa said: “It’s to change the negative narrative of the Niger Delta so we are poised to change people’s consciousness through issues, through enlightenment, through talk. We believe that this magazine is going to be one of its kind. It’s not a protest magazine. It’s a developmental magazine”.

Mrs Lucky Akpojevwa also the Supervising Editor said that they were passionate about the magazine which will change negative perception in the region.

She said the youth would benefit greatly from the magazine and would feature issues on the environment and oil exploration and others.

“It’s not a protest magazine. It’s a developmental magazine. It’s a magazine to change the way we think. We hope that our youth will gain immensely from this magazine. Through the magazine, we are going to speak to them (and) enlighten them to change the way they think,” she said.

Speaking also about the magazine, Mr. Romeo I. Romeo also member of the board of directors and filmmaker had described the magazine as a rebirth of new dawn.

He said that the magazine would report about treasures in the Niger Delta which have not been of benefit to the people.

He also said the magazine will bring to life the culture of the people of the region adding that it will bring attention to the region and ensure needs of the people are met by holding the government to account.

“We discover in the Niger Delta that our culture have not been put into use. It’s as if the culture is being killed but this magazine want(s) to pass a message through cultural heritage,” Romeo also Entertainment Editor said.

They said the magazine will be published monthly on both hard copy and online.
