Govt Has Put Measures In Place To Ensure No Hiding Place For Criminals – Nwiyor
The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Prince Sudor Nwiyor, has said that government has put measures in place to ensure criminals have no hiding place.
But he admitted there were still pockets of criminal activities and said in no distant time most criminals would be brought to book.
Prince Nwiyor who spoke in an interview on the backdrop of the release of a kidnapped lecturer in the polytechnic who recently regained his freedom said it was unfortunate kidnappers would go after lecturers.
He said that kidnapping was a condemnable act and being condemned by everyone.
The Chairman of ASUP in the polytechnic said: “They should desist from that business. We are advising our sons that are still into kidnapping to desist from it because it will not take them to anywhere”.
The Chairman of ASUP in the polytechnic thanked the Rivers State government for the timely release of James Fiwe, a lecturer in Department of Insurance and Risk Management.
He commended the government for putting pressure on security agencies after it was informed of the kidnap of the polytechnic lecturer.
Prince Nwiyor also thanked Commissioner of Police in the state and Officer in Charge of kidnapping unit in the state for ensuring the release of their colleague.
He said before the recent case few years ago a female lecturer was also kidnapped which had led to a “serious protest” by the union demanding her release.
He said he totally condemned kidnapping in the state.
He said the governor of the state, Chief Nyeson Wike, has put measures in place to ensure that criminals would have no hiding place.
The lecturer was abducted in early January in Ikwerre Local Government Area by unknown gunmen at his residence and was reportedly released without payment of ransom.
In September a lecturer with the University of Calabar was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Cross River State.
The police in Rivers State have been on the trail of kidnappers and rescued their victims.
