Security Agencies On Red Alert In Rivers Over Killing Of Personnel
Security agencies in Rivers State have been placed on red alert following the killing of some security personnel comprising men of Nigerian Customs Service, Police and Military officers.
We gathered that more security personnel have been deployed along Elele/Isiokpo/Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government area to beef up security after the last Sunday onslaught at three check points along the route.
We also learned that members of OSPAC, a local vigilante is to work in synergy with the security agencies.
In the meantime, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and dastardly.
In a statement through his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, the governor said there is no justification for such a heinous and condemnable attack targeted against innocent security personnel on legitimate duty of protecting lives and property in the State.
The statement reads in parts: “The Government of Rivers State is saddened by the unwarranted callous attack on security personnel. We offer our sympathies to the relatives of those who lost their lives in the attack.
“We condemn this heinous act, share the grief of the security agencies and convey our sincere condolences.”
Gov Wike who charged the security agencies to be vigilant, affirmed that the Government and people of Rivers State stands in solidarity with security agencies at this difficult times of this unwarranted and mindless violence.
He also demanded that the perpetrators of the attack be fished out and brought to justice.
The Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident but quickly pointed out that the Command was yet to have details of the incident.
