Regional Security: Group Urges Synergy Among South-South Govs

Against the backdrop of festering security challenges in the country, a Non-Governmental Organization, Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta (PAFOND), has appealed to governors of the South-South region to approach the malady by setting up a security outfit like their counterparts have done in the South-East and South-West region of the country respectively.

Rising from their 16th congress held recently in Benin City, Edo State, PAFOND in conjunction with Niger Delta Indigenous People’s Network (NDIPN), issued a communique in which they stressed the obvious benefits of tackling insecurity through a regional block.

In the communique which was jointly signed by the National Chairman of PAFOND, Comrade Owo Udoh, National Coordinator of NDIPN, Daniel Wilson and National Publicity Secretary, Apostle John Amaowoh said the essence of forming the security outfit is to help secure the region’s land and waterways.

The forum said it is pained by the spate of violence, kidnapping, banditry and other forms of insecurity across the country and particularly in the Niger Delta.

“We appeal to all youth from the region to continue to look away from any act that will bring the names of their families to the ground, but rather, they should look at things that will improve their lives and that of their families as well as bring development to the region and Nigeria at large”, the forum said.

The group maintained that it is happy with the kind of developmental strides which an indigenous investment company, Elano Investments Limited, was carrying out in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State and urged the management to keep up the tempo.

The forum with its membership strength across all units and wards of the region, warned that the body will not support any act of violence or intimidation of citizens by any group or individuals that want to perpetrate same in the region.

“Violence has not benefited anyone but rather bring destruction and under-development”, the group warned.
